'Scorpion 2'

This is an armoured 1990's Nissan named 'Scorpion 2' that has been retrofitted with additional armour and a DShk 50. calibre HMG.

It is part of a series of Ukrainian vehicles that have nicknamed after animals, with this one being the heavier armed 'cousin' to the open-topped 'Grasshopper' or 'Scorpion' which were UAZ's fitted with a bathtub armoured shell and HMG's. These were sometimes referred to as 'People's Tank's' in general as well, rather than each vehicles nickname.

This one above is more sturdily built and does not have an open top, and is known as the 'Scorpion 2'. These vehicles were supposedly used as stop-gap solutions when supplies of actual professional armoured MRAP support was not available during the earlier periods of the conflict circa July of 2014, with Scorpion 2 seeing combat around Kramatorsk, Eastern Ukriane and have since been retired from active service or destroyed. (1)

Apparently this vehicle was problematic to drive due to how the armoured plates had been double layered on it in an attempt to provide 50/ calibre heavy machinegun levels of protection rather than just 7.62x39 or 5.45 normal rifle level, so handling, particularly turning, was terrible and the vehicle was mostly used from static positions rather than as a mobile quick response element. The glass on as many of the People's Tanks as possible was also ballistic rated, as the vehicles tended to attract a lot of SVD sniper rifle fire.
